The Clarkstown Central Board of Education approved a memorandum of agreement for employment with the Clarkstown Teachers Association at their meeting on June 16. The agreement begins retroactively on Sept. 1 2015 and runs through Aug. 31, 2019.
The vote from the board was unanimously in favor of the agreement, according to School Board President Mike Aglialoro.
“It was great to have a resolution,” Aglialoro said Friday morning.
The agreement includes a half percent increase for this past year, based on the teacher’s salaries from the 2014-2015 school year. In 2016-2017 the teachers will receive a 1.25 percent increase to their salaries in addition to their step increase.
Salary increases in the last two years of the contract-2017-2018 and 2018-2019-will be based on the consumer price index and will not fall below 1 percent or exceed 2 percent in addition to step increases and will depend on where the tax cap cuts out, according to Aglialoro.
“It gives them upside rather than having a static number,” Aglialoro said.
The CTA is the district’s largest bargaining unit. Now that their contract is settled, Aglialoro expects the school board to hammer out employment contracts with the other unions in the district, which include the maintenance, grounds, and facilities staff (CSEA Local 844),teaching assistants, nurses, clerical staff, transportation staff, and other faculty members.
Approval of the agreement comes two weeks after roughly 100 teacher’s and supporters protested the lack of a contract at the Board of Education meeting.
